    hey all, new guy here as i just picked up an '07 tw and i know i've read some stuff from the past about adjusting the pilot screw 2 1/2 turns to eliminate the choke and make the bike warm up quicker, but wondering if anyone's noticed any negative effects to doing this or if it's no big deal at all? also, i'm mildly mechanical with limited tools, and am thinking about doing this, anyone know of any videos out there or pictures that can help me with this process? pretty sure i get how to do it but just wanna make sure i don't screw anything up. thanks!

    It's not difficult. Carbs that have never had their idle mixture screws tampered with will have a metal plug covering them which must first be removed in order to make the adjustment.



    2 1/2 turns seems to be ballpark enough for most. Ideally you'd adjust it for highest idle when the engine is running but the location of the screw requires fireproof skin in order to employ that method.

    Thx for the reply! What's the best way to get that metal cover off? Drill it or can I yank it out if I get a grip inside that little hole?

    Get something in the little hole and twist it out. A sheet metal screw works well, then just keep twisting and pulling until its out.

    I backed my idle screw out about 3 1/2. I haven't noticed any difference except the fact that im not backfiring anymore when I have my spark arrestor pulled out.
