For a total cost of 50 dollars, I got some army night vision cases, padded and in my color too! and made some AL brackets, SS tubing reinforcements and some HD nylon straps (aks old seat belts from a Camry) and now I have saddle bags! Hope to test ride tomorrow, but spent part of today getting cortisone shot up in mY arthritic knees.

Those look great, I've always been a fan of ammo can panniers.
Only a fool would attempt it, and God help me, I am that fool!

Only problem is that those things are really heavy. But, if they are fixed to the bike, they are lockable and waterproof.

I had a set of 50 cal cans on mine, but after a corner of one poked a hole in the back of my leg in a very minor get off, I went back to soft bags.

Actually the night vison cases weigh about half as much as the 50 cal cans my buddy put on his KLR, not too bad, half the weight is in the lid. they do ride farther back as well, but I can see the problem in tip overs. My wifes TW gets the soft bags...Probably wont ride with them all the time, jsut when i want to carry bottles of bubble to a romantic mountain meadow...

Red would have his words for it, though I have not used any duct tape, but the modern equivilent fave of mine, Rescue Tape!

Cafe Roadster project in background is a 79 G1000-V5, Tonti Framed ex police bike model. Getting all detabbed and stripped, has 40 mm Del Ortos with pods, electronic ignition, sump spacer and lightened flywheel ready to go in.

    Good eyes.
