    Recognition engine yamaha TW

Hello everyone I am new to the forum and also I take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Stephen and I live to Italy ..

I would like to know how do I differentiate a motor yamaha TW 125 and 200, in other words, there is a tag? any written or else I can find on the engine in order to understand if it is 200 or 125?
Obviously I'm asking because I'm going to a purchase of a Yamaha TW 200 that has been "dressed" as the new 125 (to give you an example, the 200 had both drum brakes, classic paint white and blue etc. While this has 125 parts of a "new", for example, make the front fork is that of a 125 and also has the brake disc, that the 200 has never had.)
    So I want to make sure I'm not buying a 125 but a 200.
    The bike is 1995

P.S. excuse me if I'm wrong section but this seemed the most appropriate

Look at the left side of the engine just below the cylinder cooling fins...! There should be an engraved tag which says 196 cm3 if it is a TW 200....!

And i'm bit confused about your model analysis..! TW200 has disk break and all the new features as the new 2014 model from 2001 onwards..!
I have no idea about TW125 though..! It was never introduced to our markets..! (South East Asia)

In EU I believe the engine code is 5RS or 5EK for the 125s, so If it's not those, then it's a good bet it was one of the earlier and much rarer EU TW200's....Of course the best way to really tell (because someone could have messed with everything internally) is to remove the spark plug and use a dial guage to check the piston stroke (which would be around 56mm if it were 200cc). I you don't have a dial guage, then use a screwdriver or coat hanger to take a measurement, mark the stroke and then use a ruler or a dial caliper to get a rough measure...The TW200 stroke is significantly longer than a 125.

If the numbers and registration of the frame can be verified as 1995, then you can be sure it's a TW200...TW125 did not show up until 1999. You still want to measure as they could have installed a TW125 engine on that older frame.

In 1995 the TW engine serial code began with "3AW" ( but this was for USA models, whether or not this applies to all pre 1999 EXPORT (non JDM) models, I'm unsure of)

The TW200 was not available in Europe once they released the TW125. Therefore there was no disk brake TW200's exported to Europe by Yamaha to my knowledge. He is in Italy (which should be an 070 country code after the model code). The TW200 was available to certain EU markets prior to 1999, but they were not imported for every model year as in the USA. I imagine they are quite rare nowadays, I believe France received the lions share of these 200's....So what he is proposing is quite possible: Someone has an old beat up EU TW200, they release the new 125's in 1999, suddenly there is a bunch of shiny used parts on the EU used (Ebay) market that will fit right on that old 200. He is just hoping they didn't decide to swap a TW125 engine on there as well. If the bike is as he describes, I'd consider it an upgrade, as the 125 had front disk and an all-alloy rear hub with larger brake drum. It also had an improved rear damper body design.

Thank you all for the answers and explanations (even if there are things that I already knew).
However, I checked and saw that the engine is 200, but you have made your changes as the fork with disc brake (which only has 125) and other details to modernize the look of the bike. when i got some pictures of the bike, post it on the forums.
Sorry if English is not correct, but I use google translator to be even quicker to write posts

What was the engine code (serial number) for a 1995 TW200 for the European market? What was the color of the original fenders? Was it a "rainbow warrior" like the USA version of the 1995 TW200? see below:

    imag.jpg

Frame, tank, fenders, cowl, side panels=French Blue
    Seat=EL Toro Orange
