    Loose shifter and kicker.

My shifter lever is a bit loose. It is tightened all the way. Is there anything that I can put over the threads to tighten it? Also having this issue on our 83' Xl600r shifter and kick starter. ( horrible rattling on the 600 )

Use bearing mount, I like the loctite or john deere stuff. It's supposed to be able to fill gaps up to .020. I've used it on my skidder and it does work quite well for tightening loose splines on shafts. Just make sure you degrease and clean the surfaces first and use a pick to clean any loose aluminum from the splines before you start.

Take the shifter off the bike. Remove the bolt. Put shifter in a vice and squeeze just tight enough so the metal clamp parts makes contact. Use a hacksaw and cut down between the contact of the two pieces of metal. Reinstall on bike and it should now tighten up.

I think you are describing an external loose kicker, but mine got sloppy inside, as in shaft play in and out. For this I added another spacer inside, which worked great. -Dell
