Is it necessary to replace plastic sleeve around carb joint?

I peeled back a little of my cracked sleeve and looks like there's still a metal joint behind it intact.

With engine running, squirt a little WD-40, carb cleaner etc. at the boot. If engine rpm changes, it's leaking. If not, you're OK, for now.

What scotti says. Mine is cracked and missing most if not all that black plastic and I'm not having any issue. But just to be safe ^^^^
