Talking How To Remove the Pilot Screw?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me. I am new to the TW but had bikes all my life. I just sold my DRZ 400s to get a TW and scored on a 2003 with 207 miles on it. It has sat for the last 8 years in a crate and is in great shape but needs the usual to get running.

I have dismantled the carb and purchased a rebuild kit and everything looks good, except I cannot figure out how to remove the pilot screw. What I am referring to is here https://tw200forum.com/forum/technica...-cleaning.html called the pilot screw.

On my carb, there is a silver cap with a paper clip sized hole in it over the hole where the pilot screw sits. I can't figure out how to remove the cap? I have seen pictures of the cap and it looks like it is a threaded screw? I can't find anything on how to remove it. Has anyone dealt with this? Does it matter if I just mangle the cap and remove it for good?

I have cleaned and replaced all the parts in the carb minus the pilot screw and feel like I need to do it. The valve seat was very stuck in place and so I figure the pilot circuit is gummed up as well.

    Thanks for any help!

No, you should not need to replace it. Take care when removing the screw because there will be a tiny O ring, washer, and spring on it. If your carb. is varnished up they may remain up in there until you hit it with carb cleaner, sending them into the farthest corners of your shop. Don't ask how I know this Good luck.
