    Cracked Crankcase (L) 1996

    Gents-
I am new to the forum... Hope this riding season has been kind to you thus far.
I have a 1996 TW and after running over some road debris, a large crack in my left crankcase cover left me stranded. The cover is not salvageable as the crack is pretty bad.
I am looking to replace the cover, but have been told the part is no longer available by some....
I found one from a company on the internet that displays the code 3AW-15410-00-00. Wow $293! I am reaching out for some helpful advise from those who are sure to know (couldn't think of a better place than TW200forum). Is this the one I need? What are the changes from model year to model year that would prohibit me from slapping on a 2014 cover?
Also, if the part is no longer available. Does anyone have a spare 1996 left side cover for sale?
    Thanks and ride safe.

Hmm that sounds very overpriced .. I would check eBay. Dont forget a gasket too. I believe all years will fit without trouble.
    Type in tw200 stator cover.

1988-2000 are the years that you should be looking at for the stator cover. The electrics changed 3 times, as did the cover. Double check to make sure it is the same style as yours before you spend much money.

The 1987 TW had a unique charging system. TW's from 1988 up through 2000 were basically the same. In 2001, I believe, the charging system was upgraded once again. So the parts inside a 2014 are different than a 2000 or older. Not sure if the actual case cover is different. Looking at the parts fiche on RockyMountainATVMC.com it shows the part number for a 1987 left side case cover is 2JX-15410-00-00. The 1996 left side case cover is 3AW-15410-00-00, and for a 2001 the number is 5FY-15410-00-00. So it appears the cases cover for a 1996 will be different than a 1987 or 2001 or later.

I would suggest putting a wanted ad in the classified section of this website, and keep an eye on Ebay. I would be surprised if one doesn't turn up fairly soon, and for a whole lot cheaper than $300! If you have any motorcycle salvage yards nearby it would be worth checking there also.

Ricochet skid plates are pretty popular for the TW.

Edit: Leben beat me to the draw!

Have you tried JB welding it yet? The stuff works pretty well on aluminum. Guys have used it to patch their case back together after their chain broke and wrapped around the front sprocket. We fixed an aluminum 4x4 selector on an f150 with the stuff. Couldn't find an aftermarket one and ford wanted about $300 for it. That was a couple years ago and it's still going.. (Knock on wood). We've fixed plenty of stuff over the years with it. As long as you've got all the pieces I'd give it a shot. If it don't work your only out a couple bucks

Speaking of case damage, I need a good skid plate. The Ricochet probably. I have "Rock marks" from venturing too far into a dry creek bed....
