    Question Shocks

Hi to all . Can someone tell me if the rear shock is repairable. I am looking to buy a TW 200 but the shock has no damping at all and bounces like a pogo stick .The present owner is reluctant to reduce the price and I have checked the main dealer and a new one is around £350. Any help out there.....Brian

I have never heard of the rear shock being repairable. To my knowledge, it's only replaceable. There is a minor adjustment which can be made, but it sounds like your shock needs to be replaced.

Too bad, I have a good shock you could have for $50 but shipping would more than double the price. They can't be repaired but I did hear that Yamaha did some sort of recall on the shocks in other countries not in the US. You might research this recall and see if it is still active.

Thanks Garyl I haven't bought as yet but I probably will if I can get a good deal.I have seen shocks on Ebay from the states but seems shipping expensive , and also theres maybe more to pay customs etc. . I will keep in mind your Shock . Would it be too much to ask as for a price to include shipping from you? This TW has only done 15000 kms so was surprised to find the shock Knackered (English phrase)...Cheers

The only way I know to get a shipping quote is to have the exact address I am sending it to and box it up so they know the size and weight. I am 30 miles from the nearest post office and further from the UPS and Fed X station. I think ebay is the way to go from a seller who ships to your country.

Hi,resending this again as it has not come up on forum, I live in uk 2 miles away from newcastle international airport I have a used rear shock that has only covered 2k miles, I got it replaced under warranty believe it or not for my 96 tdub, nothing wrong with it because I had sent yamaha America info and some reported cases of injury resulting from rear shock lower mounts shearing off due to corrosion and poor design on earlier models as my bike fell within poss cases I was contacted from my yamaha main dealer who personally know very well that they were shipping a new unit over for free and that they did not want the old unit sending back so good all round, only difference is lower mount is built heavier, and that's it

This may be worth looking into, Yamaha may replace your (to the OP) shock under warranty.

Thank you for that. as I started to read your post , I thought that you might want to sell the Shock. I have now bought the TW 200 I was talking about , Its 1992 very good condition (except for the shock of course) and has only 14,350 kms which is under 9000 miles Previous owner 13 years and little used and knew nothing of recall as did myself.Postage to France might be expensive but I go to UK now and again for Family so if you want to sell then I would be interested....Regards
