I talked a buddy of mine into purchasing a 2007 TW today. Bone stock. Would barely start and would not Idle.

I ran it around the block for him and listened to the engine. Sounded good.

I told him to buy it.

He paid cash and rode it over to my house in the rain.

I pulled the float bowl, drained 1/4 inch of what looked like sand, simply blew out the jets

with carb cleaner and canned air, replaced the float bowl screws with stainless steel allens,

dumped a couple ounces of sea foam in the tank, then a couple of MMO, adjusted the stock chain.

Removed the air screw plug and opened the screw from 1 turn open, to 2 1/2 turns open,

    looked at him and smiled.

When we picked it up, he needed the choke for 10 minutes to warm up, then half way to ride off, etc.

I left the choke in, turned on the gas, and touched the starter. Sprang to life and started running better

with each minute idling. He said by the time he got home 10 miles or so, he felt like he was on a brand new bike!

    Now the down side.....

On the right side of the bike (as sitting on it) next to the kickstarter lever if you have one, just BEHIND the brake light switch,

is a small square relay of some type. Its housed in rubber, and has a slot in the rubber that fits over a fixed slot on the frame.

Anyone know what this is? (that fell down and melted on the pipe)

I'm guessing its some kind of turn signal or flasher relay, but can't tell from the wiring diagram in the service manual or parts fish.

Can anyone ID it for me. I need to get a new one for my friends bike.

    Igofar (and type alot)

    Igofar,

Sounds like you're the new resident pro for getting TW's sorted out.

That melted square is the flasher for the turn signals... I managed to melt mine too, but it still works so I didn't replace it.

The stock Yamaha flasher lists for over $60. If it needs to be replaced, you might want to try an auto parts store.

Thank you so much for verifying that! I'll call him and let him know asap.

I think this is the part, number 41 on the parts fisch at Ron Ayers list for $22.02 plus shipping.

    Thanks biglefti,

I don't know where I found that $60 price. Stadium Yamaha and Boats.net have the flasher for a similar price as Ron Ayers.

Did the turn signal relay change locations from a 96' model to an 07' model?

On the 96', the signal relay is on the left side of the headlight. The ignition and starter relays are more where igofar described.

The parts diagram shows the flasher next to the headlight on 2000 and earlier TW's

For 2001 to the present it shows the flasher on the frame below the seat (where it's located on my 2005).

Good question. I was thinking the same thing.

Most any 12v flasher with the same number of wire termionals will work. Auto parts store, $3.00 or so.
