Rubber diaphragm found mashed in and causing carb issues

The rubber diaphragm in the bottom of this pic was found mashed in, causing an air leak, letting dirt in and causing starting issues. Done by a mechanic 20 miles from my place. I've had my local new mechanic (1 mile from me) sort out big issues with my bike. I would have loved to do the carb work myself as a beginner but i don't have time due to my TAT trip and moving.

I'm surprised that it ran at all.
