I have purchased a new to me 89 tw200. Right off the bat i didn't like how the clutch felt. The clutch would engage right at the very beginning of the pull, and the rest 3/4 of the way it was dead. I thought i could just adjust the cable and it would be fine. I tried that a few days ago before my Saturday ride and it would tend to creep in gear. I didn't like that so i put it back to where it was before.

The bike shifts into gear smooth, but it feels like its slipping and then clunks into gear. The only way i can get it to go into gear smooth is clutching real fast and grabbing a hand full of throttle and she doesn't clunk. I also have had a horrible time on hitting neutral instead of 1st or 2nd. Maybe that's just a personal issue instead and i need to get use to the bike. I have ridden a friends 87 and 94 tw and they shift real smooth no matter how messy you are with the clutch.

Id just like some other opinions on it before i spend the money on clutch parts and pull everything apart. Yes there is fresh 10w40 mc wet clutch oil in there. The bike also has 1700 miles on it.

My 1990 did that until I actually took the side covers off and mechanically adjusted the clutch. Once that is done, then you can mess with the cables to your liking. Its not very difficult to do, except that you might want to order new gaskets ahead of time (just incase you rip the ones that are on there) and you'll have to do another oil change.
If you can't find it, grind it

Mobil 1 Racing 4T 4-stroke Motorcycle Oil made a significant improvement in Tdub's clutch and trans compared to Valvoline 4-Stroke Motorcycle dino oil.
