    Trailwing tires

Took my TW to a co-workers bike shop for new tires. I asked for rear trailwing (like original) and a Shinko front. What they put on are the new Trailwings (front and back) that are more like the adventure riding tires.

I mostly ride forest service roads and trails....am I going to be as disappointed as I think?

    Thanks

Hi orchemo and welcome to the forum.

There is talk of stock tire being discontinued (and therefore a new one coming out) - but there is already a more street oriented version in existence.

Normal stock front and rear: Bridgestone TW31 and TW34

More street oriented dualsport: Brigestone TW203 and TW204
or Shinko SR428 front and rear

If you have something else; please let us know as you may have the first of a new style tire for the TW.

Member bananachunks has one of the dualsport sets on his as it is his daily driver - and he has taken it on the tough rides including the Rubicon with other members. So how much less capable it will be for you will depend on the actual roads/trails and your ability and what you are willing to put up with. Let us know what tire they are and you will probably get a lot of responses. Again; Welcome. -J-

I'd be curious as to which tires they gave to you also.

203 and 204 when I just looked. Not what I wanted. One person small shop and a friend of a friend.

I will replace and list a new set of 203 and 204 tires here

I wouldn't care who it was. Even If my children can't follow simple instructions I give them hell. ...and I love them. I would take it back and tell them you asked for a Shinko. Put a Shinko on.

You want a TW34 on the rear - and whatever Shinko you choose to go with on the front

The TW34 should cost about 100 bucks - the tire has a good reputation on both road and dirt - grab 'em while they're going .......

Thanks. Going to contact her and have them replaced. She said it was the first time the bike had probably been apart (5700 miles and. 1998) and getting the axle out and head broken was quite a chore. Should be easier now !!!!

Going to be more descriptive and ask for

    Front tire - Shinko SR244 - Size: 5.10-18
Rear tire - Bridgestone Trail Wing TW34 Motorcycle Tire 180/80-14

The front fork is also leaking on one side and have the front brake done. Do you have to turn the drum on motorcycle brakes?

    Thanks

It's unlikely you will need to do anything to the drum, besides cleaning it up with a little emery cloth.

Have both forks done as a pair - always best - seals and oil

The drum will be fine - as LT says, just give it a dust with emery cloth to get rid of any corrosion - no need to "turn" it (whatever that is) ........

    Thanks all.

On cars, the drum can sometimes get "glassed over" if you do not turn. Turning means putting it in a lathe and take off a thin cut of metal to get back to metal that will grip the shoes.

Was planning to have both forks done
