    Waterproofing the TW

    On our ride today I blasted through some big mud holes and stalled out my bike. What are some things I can do to help prevent water from interfering with its operation and don't say... Stop blasting through big mud holes

    No problem. Perhaps you could also check the seal on your air box, also check the rubber boot on your spark plug wire for a tight seal. If water crossings are going to be fairly common I would also eliminate the kickstand safety switch. I hope this helps.

    Mike and I are discussing the dangers of disabling the kickstand safety switch. We Googled it and found it to be extreamly dangerous. Check out this video.

    Rick, disabling the kickstand safety isn't dangerous. Riding with the kickstand down is. Lots of us remember when there was no such thing as a kickstand safety. I know there is a long discussion of this on here somewhere because in that thread I posted the exact same video you posted above. Personally, my suggestion would be that unless you are a "no mistakes" type of person don't disable it unless you can identify a good reason to do so. The kickstand safety on my Enfield has been removed, but that was because it was an endless source of frustration as are most of the electrical bits on that bike. It's not a problem for me because checking the stand is so ingrained in my brain that I really can't forget it.

    Hmm, none of my sportsters had kickstand safety switches. Guess Harley still thinks people have brains

    When I bought my TW I couldn't figure out why they even installed a safety switch in the first place. It seemed to be more of a pain in the ass because I was shutting the bike by deploying the kickstand and forgetting to turn off the key. Thus leaving the headlight on. "I'm getting Better". Lol

    I guess a person could install an in-line spade connector to disconnect in the event of water days. I am going to use all of your ideas to waterproof my bike. We were 15 miles back in the woods when I had my SNAFU
