Yea, I was retightening the left side view mirror/ clutch lever mounting bracket and got to frisky on the upper philips head screw.....partially rounding it. I do not have a shop manual yet....can anyone advise the thread count and metric size of this screw?.Also, why did Yamaha put philips head on the left side and socket heads on the right side bracket???...seems odd...just curious?.

M6 x 1.0 x ? I don't know the length. Take the old ones in to any hardware store and get yourself some allen heads. The allen heads will probably require a 4MM hex shaft (allen head driver) to put them in.

Actually, they are not Phillips, they are Japanese Industrial, which is why you rounded them off.

Yup, get ready to replace all of your "Phillips" screws with something better.

Not phillip's?...sure look like it to me....I'm sure the,"Japanese industrial" means something?????.I understand their reasoning for putting "soft" screws on the bike(to keep from striping something),but, geeze, my hands are not THAT strong!.

Also, why did they put the "phillips" only on the left side mirror bracket....the right side has socket type.

Yup. All copy machines are Xeroxs and all tissues are Kleenexs, too. You can also remove metric bolts and nuts with SAE wrenches. Grind enough of the point off a Phillips and it comes real close to being a Japanese Industrial. The screw really isn't that soft, the driver misfit is the issue. Many folks swap the stock screws for allen heads. It's easier to find allen wrenches than it is to find Japanese Industrial drivers around these parts. The brake lever is subject to greater forces than the clutch lever. Hence, a different attachment.

qwerty......now I get it,the depth of the screw is a determining factor.Reflecting back,I remember noticing how "pointy" my driver was.

Don't wish to disagree, but the clutch perch screws on my TW were 5mm diam. and 20mm long. Maybe mine was the exception.
