My kickstand rattles quite a lot. The bolt is tight. Not sure if the spring is stretched or if someone put on the wrong spring. I've done a search and haven't found much discussion about the kickstands. Anyone have a similar problem or a good solution?

Hardened valve shims will take up the slack.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Powdercoated '87 frame, extended swingarm, YZ fork legs, ATV tire, 14/55, XT350 tank, spliced quick-release seat, disc brake conversion, beeg headlight, beeger rack, Lizrdcooler, Lizrdventz and bunch of other stuff all covered in invisible ink.

Thanks lizrdbrth I think I see what you mean. The shims go between the stand and the mounting bracket is that correct? I can see now that the spring has nothing to do with why it is rattling. Though it is tight when down it is only loose when it is up.

Right. IIRC the smooth part of the shoulder bolt is 14mm, so smallblock Chevy shims should work. Machine shops sometimes toss used ones.
