I am new to the forum. Just purchased a TW2008.

I would like to install hand guards. Other than openning up the ends of the hand grips, is there any other 'surgery' that has to be done to the TW200, specifically the throttle side of the handle bar, in order to complete the installation? Also advise as to brand and size of guard would be helpful.

    Thanx!

Hand guards have been explained numerous times on this forum. Search around and you'll find some good information. There are many good brands out there and most will fit. Installing them is pretty easy. I found this link that did a good job of explaining the installation process. I bought the same ones that are on my link. Find some that look cool to you. If you have any questions about compatibility, post it on this forum and I'm sure someone has the same ones and will be able to help you.

I have been very happy with my Tusk hand guards. I bought these in black.

Me and all my friends use tusk (same as above), we ride some rocky/hellish trails and the total number of bike drops is ALOT. The protection they provide will more than pay for them.Plus they have held up flawlessly

Brand doesn't matter, just make sure you get a set with aluminum reinforcment bars. The all-plastic guards break too easy.

OK so I got a cheap set. I had read here not to get them. I am not wise enough to learn from others. I had to get a set myself. So one bracket had a stripped female thread. It would just never tighten down. Heck I was using the short end of the Allen wrench. Inch ounces of torque! LOL then someone on TW200 forum described the cheap pot metal. Yep, Cheap says it correctly. So I am just not wise enough to read and believe what many say is so.
    TW200 number 2. 2018 1.1 miles when I picked it up.

I did the same thing but I went to fortnine.ca and bought new Acerbis bar inserts and replaced the socket/cap head m5 screws at the local hardware store. I hope this will bring the knock offs up to a reasonable performance level and later when I can dish out more cash on it I'll upgrade them.

If you stripped the aluminum threads you can either drill them out larger and tap them with a larger thread or use longer bolts with nuts on the other side.
