    Hello all,

I have a 99 TW200 that reads 9/99 on the handle bars and the vin number reads a 2000 model. My question is would a pulser coil from a 01 or 02 TW work on my bike?

operose would probably know the answer to that.

Have you looked to see if the part numbers are the same in the catalouge?

my guess would be yes as pulser coil is simple and only used for timming, but as the electrics changed between those years it might not. check part numbers.

Here are the part #'s from www.stadiumyamaha.com 2YG-85580-M0-00 <---99 4JG-85580-01-00 <---01 4JG-85580-01-00 <---02 I looked at a stator for a 01 and 02 and the wire diagram looks different but the wire diagram for the pulser coil looks the same as my 99. reason i ask is the pulser coil for my 99 is $100 and the one for the 01/02 are $40.

Hmmn would apear they are different then. You could also check new manual resistance specs against old. I think the CDI post on general disusion forum has many pics of the pre 2000 and in the technical forum i posted pics of a 2003 pulsar coil.

my advice is if you can afford it get the correct one. if it has different the cdi might not recognise the pulse otherwise.

    anyone else know????

This is why we need better resources regarding the electrical system changes between years and what that means for the average joe, operose, or sirsmighty.

If we had a reliable manual for each year range it would be a start. As it is, working from a manual for an 87 with a post-'01 "supplement" leaves you guessing if working on the electrical system of an in between bike. I know a guy with a bootleg manual that may become available at some point...

I cannot say for sure whether the pulser coil from a newer bike will or will not work, but do know that most places don't take returns on electrical parts so keep that in mind

Parts should be here within a few days, hoping for a good outcome. with the money i saved i ordered a few odd and end parts i was needing. I called a few different shops even the placed i ordered the pulser coil from and asked if the 01 pulser coil would work on my 99 they all said that it would. But i still don't understand the price difference. the 01 i ordered was $40 and the one for my bike is $75. I guess we will see, I will post what happens.

I didn't know you could buy the pulser coil separately. When mine went, I had to buy the entire stator ass'y because the pulser was welded to it!

Did I mention that I also broke off a screw in the housing while doing this?

That was another $40 to have it removed and heli-coiled.

Live and learn...at least these bikes are fairly easy to repair.

Yeah on www.stadiumyamaha.com the diagram shows it being separate from the stator i know its like that from a 99 and up. I would have hated to buy the whole ass'y that would have been a little over 400!
