I am a newbie to TW ownership. I have read posts about having 4 drain holes in the oil filter or engine damage will occur. I bought a K&N # 143 oil filter and was curious if anyone had used this paticular filter #. In the past i have had good luck with K&N products but am concerned about the 4 small holes i do not see on this filter. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks..Larry

I've used the K&N143 filters. They had the 4 holes.

Maybe K&N suffers from the same TW oil filter syndrome as Yamaha does. HDLLLIII got one without the 4 holes, the link I provided showed it had 4 holes but too long, and qwerty had success.

I've been using the KN #143 for about 5 years now...no problems at all.

K&N KN-143 on left, Yamaha 5HO-13440-09 on right. Both have 4 holes. K&N has black rubber pressure relief in center hole. Yamaha has metal pressure relief in center hole.

K&N KN-143 on left, Yamaha 5HO-13440-09 on right. K&N has metal backing to support filter media. Yamaha does not.

K&N KN-143 on left, Yamaha 5HO-13440-09 on right. K&N has a larger media diameter (Yamaha has a gap between media and end stamping filled with glue) and more pleats, so more surface area.
