oil filter cover leak

    Only have a couple hundred miles on this tw(2009 leftover,bought this past June)and I have been having slight oil leaks coming from the bottom side of the oil filter cover. The bolts are tourqued properly,have already replaced the gaskets for the cover and the leak returned?.Is this the achilles heel of the tw?. Thoughts, fellow riders.

    check the small o-ring around the bottom left bolt also i would inspect the main seal for imperfections and pinches and check the cover itself for cracks and gouges

    I bought a left over 2009 as well. The main reason to buy new for me was the warranty. I would just take the bike to the dealer and let them fix it. I'm sure as frog13 said the o-ring is the issue.

    UPDATE: Went out and bought a new large and small o ring. Compared the "old" one....(only 100 miles on it,a couple weeks old)....to the new one;the new one was a fractionally smaller than the "old" one....hmmm?.Looked at the old o ring package that I kept and compared the part numbers versus the new one....this is what I noticed!. The part number 93210-54175 was on both packages,but, just below this is says: Made in Inodonesia then another smaller printed part number = F110317A(old package). On the new package the smaller part number read = F051202A?. I wonder if they have had a foul-up as Yamaha did on their oil filters?. Something to think about. The o-ring comparison above is in relation to the large o-ring on the oil filter cover, not the real small one on the filter drain bolt.

    The "F" numbers may refer to a batch. In case of a defective batch, they could remove only those specific to that batch number from the salable inventory. Or it may refer to the factory that manufactured it. Or something else? I wouldn't read into too much if it's sealing.



    And o-rings can and do stretch with age.





    And some parts shrink...

    Thank you pmtg,understood. The only conflict I'm having is a new bike(2009 leftover bought this past June) and I'm encountering this friggin cover leak.....replaced the large and small o-rings twice....so far no leak with the new o-ring(s).....just seemed premature to have to replace these items so soon.

    alot of times you can just buy those o-rings at the hardware store and i know that when i replaced a few that way the ones i got from the store were a little beefier and alot cheaper
