    I have a 1995 Tw200 that has a California fuel cap on a normal tank.(no rollover valve underneath)

    I'm having fuel flow issues due to there not being a vent in my tank. Is there a way that I can make my gas cap vented, or are there any aftermarket replacements available? Any help would be greatly appreciated because pulling over on the highway, taking the key out, unlocking the cap, twisting it off, locking it back, and then starting again with cars whizzing by is no fun.

    might look for a local bike salvage yard. or if thats fails, an online version, or oem parts retailer.



    someone may add from experience mixing and matching, i haven't done that myself yet.

    I have offered one of the New Mexico vintage Yamaha caps to D.Davis to solve his problem, but I'm curious why he has one. Do California bikes really have nonvented caps? I know hey have canisters in case they belch (outflow of fumes or liquid), but the posters problem is inflow (release of fuel as it is consumed). So does the CA tank breath in through the canister too? Just curious and thought others would want to know too.

    Cali bikes vent through the carb.



    There's a tube inside the Cali tank which leads from just under the filler neck to the outside of the tank, then leads to the carb, so it doesn't need a vented cap.



    If you put this cap on a 49-state bike it will have the same symptoms as a clogged vent.



    He should take you up on your offer. Those metal caps are hard to come by and almost never clog.

    i have a cali bike which i removed the carb and canister and got a standard tk carb to replace it. i live in ct so i dont have issues like in cali as far as emisions and all that stuff. so if i dont have a vented gas cap on a cali tank how does the tank vent? just wondering if i should look out for posible problems in the future. my nephew in cali bought a beat to crap tdub and needed the carb so i hooked him up. i have not had any problems yet and when i do remove the gas cap there is no hissing when i crack it open.

    I have a non California 2002 bike on which I installed a California spec xt350 tank (only diff from stock in terms of hook up was an extra nipple on bottom of tank (but which was coming from a vent tube at top of tank near cap orifice). I had no carb or canister to route that to so just added a reasonably long segment of tubing and routed it to back of bike (if my tank ever belches (not likely except in a tip over or overfill situation) the gas will discharge from the back of the bike (far from exhaust and other bike components). It works and while I wondered about the old vintage caps that I was using, I soon discovered that they create no problem and worked great. I suppose I could have put a bit of cotton in the end of the tubing to prevent dust from working its way back up the tubing, but thats not likely and have had no problems with my setup. So if a California bike has a non vented cap, it must breath backwards throught the canister and carb?? Tom

    Not backwards. Exactly the same, different route.



    In your case you now have redundent venting, both through the filler neck vent and the cap.



    The little fuel filters for weedwackers will keep the crud out of your vent line. Or you could simply cap the tank fitting since you're running a vented cap.
