    Hi all,

Got a problem with my TW200. Been in the garage for a few months, unused & when I came to start it, will start ok using the choke & can rev it using the choke but when I try to open the throttle it just dies. I have checked the plugs and cleaned the carb out (with the help of the usefull guide in this forum), but its still the same.

Could it have anything to do with the petrol going "stale"?

Any tips or comments greatfully apreciated.

    Peter

Yeah I saw that thread when I did an earlier search.

The Bike is from 2005 I believe. It has low milage & has always been garaged so is clean and in good condition. There was no gunk in the Carb when I opened it up. Any thoughts on the petrol being stale?

If your petrol is contaminated with ethanol it's probably gone bad. Drain the tank and carb and refuel.

If that doesn't do the trick, you probably still have a blockage in your carb or a buggered float level.

I had a similar issue. My bike would start right up and purr like a kitten, but when I tried to make it accelerate, it would fall flat on it's face. After some trial and error, with a lot of help from lzrdbrth, I found the carb slide had a small tear in it. The first time I examined diaphragm, I didn't see it. It took stretching out the rubber to find the tear. Replaced, and now all is good. Just my experience.

Ok,so I changed the fuel & it seemed a little better but a long way from perfect. Took it into see a mechanic who cleaned the carb (I suppose properly as I had already cleaned it twice) and now it runs fine. Looking back, maybe I should of cleaned it a third time after changing the fuel but was getting a bit fed up at that point. The mechanic advised me to drain the carb before leaving it in tha garage for a long period of time. Here (in Spain)I suppose the petrol isn't the cleanest.

    Thanks for replies.

I doubt cleaning it a 3rd time did anything, unless you missed spots the first time around. You may have not had the diaphragm seated properly. The little o-ring in the diaphragm may not have been seated or it was missing. I forget if you can mismatch the main jet and the pilot jet on the TW, but possibly you did that.

Either way, glad you're good to go now. Don't lose confidence attempting other work on the bike!! That sometimes can be a big hurdle to get over when something like this happens!!
    Sold bike.
