I stumbled across this article in Motorcyle Consumer News. Looks like good info on battery care.

Not being a batteryologist, this was a nice informative article, thanks for sharing.

Curious, was it after your accident on Packer John when you started having battery/electrical problems or was it already on going? Kinda wonder since reading this part of the article, "But it's still generally true that a motorycle that vibrates a lot will have a shorter battery life, because the plates themselves are more fragile than you might expect."

I suspect an accident such as yours, this could have occured, or possibly somethine else on the electrical system. How is the new battery doing since our Lucky Peak loop ride?
Hidden Content A ride in the woods helps me relax and release tension. The fact I'm dragging a body should be entirely irrelevant?

That kind of info could save a lot of people a lot of grief if they read`and understood it.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

A friend a long time ago told me he saw bubbles forming on top of his battery and concluded it was shorting out between the terminals via electrolyte on the surface. It made sense to me so I have always kept my batteries clean but always had a slight doubt. This article is the first time I have read confirmation of his observation. Joel, if you are out there some where, hey buddy, you were right!
Long live the internal combustion engine!

I can't tell you how many factory trained techs I've met who have no clue what a hydrometer is for.

Lead acid batteries are one of our oldest technologies and one of the easiest to become educated about. This article is probably one of the more informative ones I've seen.
