    clutch issue

    I just bought this new tw and was wondering if anyone has had an issue with it stalling as soon as you shift to 1st gear for takeoff? It does not do it if I put the bike in gear and rock it a little before I start it. I tried to adjust the cable but does not help. I have always had my clutch set to where it engages after barely letting out on the lever. Newer bike break in? I have to let the lever almost to the end before the clutch engages. Any advice? Thanks. Frustrating!

    They all do it - relax

    Sometimes changing the oil helps with the sticky clutch plates, but it will soon revert to what you describe (synth / dino make no difference)

    Either rock it first, or rev it then "clunk" it into gear

    While you're there - check the spring loading on the top of the crankcase is positioned correctly - some dealers miss this bit - unrelated to your problem but worth a look

    Yup, don't be frustrated. The clutch plates stick a little. Can happen to older TW's sitting a while or new ones without many miles. My 2015 did it too when new and doesn't anymore. The clutch engagement at the end is common as well. Goofs you up when one is used to other motorcycles clutch lever engagement.

    All normal stuff.

    I usually work the clutch lever in and out a few times after cold start up before I put it into gear. Seems to help.

    Or get an aftermarket Barnett Kevlar clutch................

    Thanks folks. I was worried I had a problem with only 6 miles on the bike.

    I remember that day!

    Yup totally normal with these. Rev it while holding the clutch in and kick it down in gear. They may jump a tad but never launch or lurch. It stops after a while then all of a sudden it will do it again when you're not thinking about it. It really doesn't matter what oil you run either.

    I had this clutch issue with lots of bikes when they are cold so is not exclusive of ours TW's. Like scotti158 says you have to pull the clutch lever a few times then in my case I like to grab the front brake at the same time I engage 1st gear so the bike doesn't move at all or if I'm pointing down the driveway I push the bike a tiny bit then when rolling I put 1st gear. Bottom line there's nothing wrong with your new bike.

    You are the only person Ive heard of liking these. I've found them to be a waste of time and money. Id never use anything but OEM in any of my bikes. Their springs belong in a F350 diesel not a dirt bike. That's my experience. Maybe you were lucky or I was unlucky using Barnett clutches

    Are you kidding?

    You are the only person I have heard that has had a bad experience. Tension in the clutch lever is noticeably greater but not objectionably so. Clutch release is clean -- much better on cold starts -- and lock up is solid -- can chirp rear tire on down shift -- and in between is smooth should you elect to use the "friction zone".

    I think you did something wrong.
