Rear brake drum won't fit the mounting plate! Help

So I traded an old Westbury Drum kit for an 89 tw200. The kids love the teal color..lol. Anyway...it had no shoes in the rear so I went down to the local (Saint John N.B. Canada) Yamaha dealer and bought a new set of EBC brake shoes. They fit the mounting plate beautifully but when i mate the plate to the drum it simply will not fit together properly. I am a mechanic by trade. I have downloaded the service manual and looked at pictures online....the bearing on the brake side is flush with the end of the outer housing of the hub on both the pics from the interweb and on my ol beater. HELP!

See if there is a difference between the shoes. Maybe they are reversed.

I don't know if this will help but this is how it is supposed to look when assembled.

I'm in Moncton...not super close but if you're down this way it doesn't take long to pull my back wheel off if you want to look at how it goes back together.
