    Chain Question

    I haven't worked much with chains, so forgive my ignorance. I bought a 45 tooth rear and a new 14 tooth front. I'm ordering a new chain and I think I need a 120 link. I'd like to have the flexibility to easily go back to a 50 tooth rear, so I'm wondering if I order a 122 link, will the snail adjusters provide enough adjustment to go back and forth without removing or adding links? Or is that not what the snails are intended for? Or is it just a bad idea? I'm ordering an X Ring and I'm hoping it won't stretch much. Thanks and cheers.

    If you order a 120 link chain, you may not be able to go back to your 50 tooth rear sprocket. If you order a 122 link, it may work with both your 45 and 50 tooth rear sprockets. I know that my 122 link chain worked for both my 47 and 50 tooth rear sprockets, so you won't really know unless you try. If you end up needing to shorten the 122 down to 120 links, that is not big deal. An X-ring chain should stretch very little after initial installation and the first few miles.

    I have found it to be very accurate, but you will need to do a bit of accurate measuring.

    I used the same chain for 50 and 55 teeth sprockets.

    If you do a xring chain on the TW that just may be the last chain you will have to buy for that bike. It's a great chain and just normal orings last a long long time.
    Go with the longer chain. You don't want to add links.
