Newer model engine with an older frame and wiring?

Hi, I would like to install a 2010 engine on a 1996 frame. Concerned about wiring harness compatability. Will I have to upgrade to a new ha4nwss and regulator? What else? Thanks. Mark

You'll end up having to replace the wiring, I'm pretty sure. Not sure about the regulator and CDI.

All it takes is: Use the 1996 flywheel and left side (96) cover on the 2010 motor....no changes to wiring harness. You may have to use the intake manifold off the old 96 motor as well....really simple swap....

Plus the new motor will have the automatic timing chain tensioner.

"And the carb boots need changing – plus the throttle cables …." Only if 2010 engine installation also includes installing the newer style carburetor too. New engine should work with old style carb and associated controls.
