Do you have a photo of your installed 12V receptacle?
I located the following Black and Decker trickle charger after buying my 2008 TW knowing that Winter is around the corner. I popped off the seat with the two underside bolts, and had this thing installed in 20 minutes. Now, just a tiny receptacle appears between my plastic side panels and I can plug it in at will. The battery mount terminal rings and quick disconnects included with the kit (see link) made it a snap. If your bike has a lighter plug, you can even plug it right into that. Looks like a high quality product compared to others I have seen. It's available at Target, too.
I also went ahead (since the seat was off) and installed a marine grade 12 volt receptacle on the bars to power my phone/GPS full time while riding.
Good luck winterizing and let me know if you need more photos/info.

Thanks! Yeah, it was tough finding just the right weather-resistant 12v receptacle for my flush USB power plug. The nice thing about this one is it has a snap-on weather proof cap that covers the USB charger so rain won't get in. I finally found one in Hong Kong, but it only cost $17 bucks and about a week to ship. Mounts right to the turn signal arm so it's hidden and looks sweet and the design is sturdy. I bought a cheap Scumacher smart charger/maintainer at Walmart
It COOKED TO DEATH 2 batteries
Now I have the YUASA 6 cycle unit
Sorry for digging this up and asking such stupid questions but I want to be sure what to look for when getting a trickle charger..
Would this kind of specifications suffice?
Oxford Oximiser 900 Battery Charger Motorbike Motorcycle Optimiser Trickle UK 40 | eBay
The only difference I can spot between the Oxford and the OP's Black&Decker is the Amp rating, but would that not just affect the charging time?
I have 8 batteries on charge all winter long. My fishing boat has 4 big deep cycle batteries alone and I keep the lawn tractor and both TW batteries hooked up full time.
Battery Tender is probably the most reliable name for storing batteries. They make single Battery Tender Jr. Models and the one for my boat is a 4 bank system. They all come with both a permanent dedicated wire to install on your battery so you just plug it in as well as alligator clips that plug in. You can get the Jr. Models for around $25 and I never had one fail or over cook a battery yet.
