my son hit my tail light while it was on, now my electrical system is dead. ???? the lights got dim and then died. i havent been able to check it yet, hope it is a fuse designed to protect the electrical system, any help on this will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Underneath the ride side cover is the fuse. Should have a spare right beside it, which you should always have. Give that a try and report back.

Do you mean to say he broke the bulb while it was running?

I'd carefully check the wires between the brake light switch and the tail light, you probably have a wire with the insulation worn off and grounding against the frame. At least that's a place start looking.
Only a fool would attempt it, and God help me, I am that fool!

671tdub, I had the same issue with mine a while back. It turned out to be the brake switch inside the front brake lever perch. I couldn't see that it was broken but it was shorting out inside the perch. Everytime I used either brake it would blow the fuse.

My temporary fix was to just pull the broken switch out of the brake lever perch and wrap it with electrical tape so it couldn't ground out. I have since gotten a new switch.

Not sure if you have the same problem, just a good thing to check.

When you say he hit your taillight, do you mean busted it up and broke the bulb? did you replace the taillight and now the fuse keeps blowing? have the correct bulb in the tail/brake light socket?

thank guys, i only noticed it happening on the rear brake. ill check the wires from tailight. not busted, bulb not burnout, just fuse blowing, lights were on and my son (four years old playing around) started hitting the tail light so i thought it was just bulb but was not bulb. wondering if it could be switch being pulled to much or to far being over extended causing it to short ???

Like mrbracket said, disconnect your switch and see if it keeps happening. If it's not there, I'd start tracing it from there to the brake light.

Possibly the socket the bulb resides in?.
