I bought a titled 89 Tw with two extra engines . Is it possible to determine what model year the engines are using the engine serial numbers? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Rubber side down. Dave

    From the web:
"You can call Yamaha customer service and they can decode your engine serial number and convert it to year and model type. Yamaha has been happy to help in this regard."

I was also was directed to check off-road.com & Netbikes.com

do you want to know exact or ball park?
the auto timing chain adjuster is 01- present, will also have bigger inlet boot with pipe coming out of the top, and 2 grey, 1 white plug connections for the electrics.
pre 01 will have manual adjuster and will not have the boot pipe. 1 white plug and red, brown, and possibly 1 black/white bullet connecters, (87 will also have 1 yellow..i think)

    if that helps any

Thanks, I was looking to identify the specific year. They all were fitted with kickstarts, so I am reasonable assured they are generation one engines. They are also all black which tells me they are 87, 88, or 89. Thank you for your advice. Rubber side down, Dave
