    Get a tachometer.

Assuming the redline is 9500, I will run my TW at 8800 rpm and do it all day long. Just over 60mph according to the TW speedo. BTW, 14/55 sprockets.

Cheap tachometers on ebay and very easy to install.

True dat. Ive ran 12 tooth on the front and it does wear faster but really improves the trail worthiness of it coupled with 55 rear. This gives you a resonable top speed of 35 mph maybe. Its a cheap part so I change it often and stay happy. The wear in my opinion is mostly a function of how much chain stretch you tolerate rather than amount of dirt or number of teeth. Ive answered this question for myself with a micrometer which was really interesting.

"Changing front often" can't be much fun having to pull side cover. I would rather change rear sprocket.
