    Carb hose purpose

Iím changing out the carb, hoses, filter, petcock and air filter on my 2002 TW. I have a fuel leak on the carb and petcock and Itís been 10 years since I installed the hoses so itís time. My question is there is a hose coming from the rubber boot between the carb and the intake on the engine. The hose runs up under the fuel tank almost to the handlebars and then it has a plug in it. Should it have some type of a breathable one way filter? The bike runs fine so I should probably not worry about it but I am curious. Thanks. 0641E334-2297-42F8-B18A-606DE386ECC0.jpeg2D7C7CDE-5A33-40B6-B498-76F8B9A2EC0C.jpeg

When I replaced the carb on my 89 with a newer style CV carb (knock-off from China) and boots, I capped the tube at the boot and that bike ran as well as my other stock bikes. I believe that long tube connects to the charcoal canister on California TWs.
