    Little clip fell out!

So I did a chain and sprocket swap out and when I was finished I noticed the little white clip between that was in the cover was sitting on the ground.... I am pretty sure it is just to keep crap from getting into the little compartment but maybe I’m wrong! Do I need to pull the whole thing apart again?

If it was me, I would not reopen until I had another better reason. I believe that piece is in place to prevent more damage in the event of a chain failure. IMHO if you have a chain failure, that piece probably isn’t going to provide much help. The picture I attached shows the aftermath of chain failure. The piece was in place at the time of failure. The bike has been running fine since. No leaks, only a new chain was required.

I could be wrong about the purpose of that piece, but this is what I remember from related threads.

I think its purpose is to prevent road debri, mud, oil etc to affect/deteriorate the cable/sensor thingy

I have the exact same damage after my chain failed!! I am thinking I can live without it
