just picked up a base gasket from the local shop, oem #5vc-11351-01

upon searching i found that the base gasket changes from 08-09 to the 2010 model which has a model number #5vc-11351-10

is there a notable difference between the two?

i only have a couple days to wrench the bike before i have to use it for commuting, will this gasket work? or am i going to do this thing twice

the leak is something i have tolerated for months now, if its the wrong gasket ide rather wait
    life is good

I've been told that when I ordered the gasket to make sure it's the 2010 version. I have one it my shed now..-----------------------------------pause--------------------------- I'll go and check the part#...11351-10 is the correct #. OMM.

Is there any sealant on the gasket you have? At about 2:00 into the video on post 28 of this page it shows the correct gasket and there is a little discussion about it. I ended up doing my base gasket twice because I didn't get the correct gasket the first time (long story). Personally I wouldn't waste the time, effort, and money doing it without the correct gasket, unless of course you like wrenching on your bike.

Just to clarify, can ALL TW's use the newer (2010 on up) base gasket number 5VC-11351-10-00?

The parts fiche shows 5VC-11351-01-00 for my 1990 which supersedes number 4CS-11351-00-00.

I'm asking because I don't know. When the times comes to replace mine, I'd like to get the better one.

Why didn't Yamaha supersede the old gasket (5VC-11351-01-000) with the new gasket (5VC-11351-10-000)?

My '95 calls for the same part number as listed for your '90. I used that base gasket the first time around and it did seal for a few months. But as I remember less than 500 miles went by before it started leaking again. I then ordered and installed the 2010 base gasket. It's been about 1,500 miles since that installation and still no leaks.

It is my belief that all TW's can use the 2010 base gasket. As far as I can see the only difference is the beads of sealant on the new gasket.

As for why they don't supersede the old gasket, well then they would have to admit there was a problem with the old one. Or maybe they just like selling gaskets. Who knows.

The bottom line is the new gasket will work for your bike. In fact I just ordered all the parts for mine - base gasket, head gasket, o-rings, circlips - for a 2010 TW. Everything fit and worked fine.
