    OK, yesterday I took my newish TW out on the road for a ride. This bike is stock, and it rides great. Now, I'm new to TW's, so work with me.



    I'm going to be riding this more on the road than I will off road! I think I want to change my sprockets to get me a little more speed with less rpm's!



    What sprocket combo would you veterans reccomend so I can achieve this?

    15 tooth front or 47 tooth rear will help a bit.

    Of course its easiest to change rear sprocket than the front one.

    I had a 44 tooth on the rear of mine and just removed it and put on the 50 tooth one last night.



    44 tooth runs out of steam on a windy day with my 160 pound body on my bike.



    Top speed with the 50 tooth for me is higher, but the bike is running way faster. With the 44 tooth the bike didn't have enough power to run at high RPM in 5th gear.



    47 may be the best compromise that way.



    These bikes require a paper gasket change if you want to remove the front sprocket due to the design, which makes no sense to me given that this has not been true of 20+ various bikes I've owned.



    I'm keeping the 50 tooth on and just calling my bike a 55mph top speed bike. It gets really buzzy up there, but it's much more fun to ride in town with more ooomph.

    My wife's and mine ended up with the 14/47 combo................ 90% road use.. Very happy with this combo... First gear is more useful and 55mph seems less buzzy. OMM.

    The sprocket shaft is very long in order to clear the big back tire. So it needs an outer bearing that has oil going thru it. If our tw's had a normal sized back tire, yamaha would have designed it like normal bikes and it would simply have a sprocket cover that pops off easily.



    Be glad we don't have a jackshaft like the BW200. You would have 4 sprockets and 2 chains to deal with.











    Although if you could fit a bw200 swingarm on a tw maybe you could shoehorn a bw350 engine in .........

    Ours cruise at 55 real smooth.. Before my wife's would blur the mirrors at that speed... I did hers first and liked it so much I did mine... OMM.

    Thanks guys! I think I'm going to try the 47 tooth rear, as it's much easier to change! Will this require any change to the chain length?



    I'm also going to change my tires to more of a road tire as well.



    Either way, these are so much fun to ride!
