    Hi everyone,

Will a 52 teeth rear sprocket work with the stock chain or will I have to add a few links? I have the stock 14 on the front.

    Hi Scotti,

Take a look at your snail adjusters on the rear axle. If they are approximately midrange, you should be okay. If they are less than midrange, you may not have enough adjustment for the larger sprocket to fit.

The adjusters have about a third of their travel used, the bike has only 500 miles on it so chain wear is minimal now. I'll need a couple of links and a master link if I decide to get the sprocket. Thanks.

If you want to consider upgrading to an O-ring chain, here is a pretty sweet deal identified by SpudRider. At 132 links it will be plenty long enough (and will need to be trimmed).

If you click on the drop down menu for Chain, you will find clip type master links for $1.94.

I have one of these chains on order that should arrive this week.

I run a 52 and yes you will need to add 4 links. takes 126. Get the deal on the o-ring chain and cut cut it down to 126.
