96 degrees in San Jose today.......

So I headed for the coast looking for some cool breeze.

On the way I decided to check on a new Midpeninsula Open Space park that has been in the works for a while. Sure enough it was open and no one was there.

A little more reading and it is called Russian Ridge something or other.....

A little closer look and there is nothing here for me. Everything I want to do is forbidden!

Nothing I want to do 5-14-'14.jpg

And if Mountain Lions and rattle snakes and poison oak weren't bad enough -- suffice it to say you have been warned!

I finally make it to Pescadero State Beach. It is small and rocky but for some reason I really like it. Looking north.

    Looking west......

    Looking west....

    And looking south

Going south on Hwy 1 I came to Davenport. There are pilings in the water where they used to load cement on ships. This is all that is left.....

A quick trip into Santa Cruz to check out the surf at Steamers Lane -- and there wasn't any.....

    No surf 5-14-'14.jpg

So I took a picture of a monument dedicated to surfers....

And a sign behind the surfer dude warning people to be careful around cliffs....

It was a beautiful day on the coast. Slam dunk perfect. I put 120 miles on the TW and took a lot of video but honestly 99% of it is mind numbingly boring and I am searching for the 1% I want to share. If I find it I will add it later. Tony

Sounds like a good day's ride. Ever visit the little 2 acre lake where Page Mill/Alpine Road crosses Skyline? Cute little park now, was undeveloped in my youth when I would skinny dip with the schoolgirls from Castellea. Good for a nice walk now, stretch the legs.

I know the pond you mean. I don't think I would have skinny dipped in it and the girls of Castilleja never talked to me.......

However Alpine Road from Portola Valley to Page Mill Rd. was a blast if it were raining hard and you had a 4X4.

    tony,
you find the best rides in the area! when we head to the coast we always head to davenport, not good for swimming, but always less crowded.

    fred,
i think i know that swamp you speak of... i've swam in worse for girls.

Joe, I went to a all boy's school so a little swamp water was nothing if it meant getting close to a real live naked girl . Innocent yet thrilling, educational too. Wow, girls!
