    Mud Lake Video

Just returned from a camp-n-ride along the Sierra crest to enjoy the full moon and explore a bit. Here is a tranquil video of a natural lake I found perhaps a bit off the beaten path. Just as I had about convinced myself I was bingo fuel and it was past time to turn around I came across this mis-named mud-less beauty yesterday. After a nice lakeside lunch and beverage break I headed back to my camp some thirty miles away. Superb scenery and riding conditions on the entire trip other than it was a bit cold and windy for riding Monday night above 8,000 ft while bathed in moonlight and needing one more warm layer.

Next time I'm bringing my Rotopak

Definently Adam. Found near perfect campsite on route we took Forth of July passed the closed gate. All open now over crest and down to American River. Need you for safety companion though as single track and jeep road were just too intense for solo in failing light.

Anyways here is a taste of some of the easier riding while waiting for sun to go down and full moon to rise.

You can hear where I decide discretion is the better part of valor as the road gets rough and decide to return with Adam-in-Nevada to complete what we started two summers ago. Best not to start an arduous ride into the next canyon bottom an hour before sunset. My plan was to descent to the American River Canyon and then take HWY50 to Lake Tahoe for the moonrise, HWY89 to Hope Valley, then HWY88 over Carson Pass to find camp by moonlight. But if I messed up on the jeep trail it would be bad.
Perhaps I was distracted with thoughts of mortality as a guest coming this weekend recently lost her son to a motorcycle accident.
I had rode the single track and jeep trail solo back in the nineties when trails were better and actually the last time was with a buddy but he fell and shattered his clavicle. I pushed my Hi-Lux into service as an off-road ambulance to retrieve him and his bike.

Yeah Fred, I was just about to comment about you riding in the rocky road area and then saw you turned around. I've been known not to wait for a riding buddy and almost get an extra overnight camping stay out of the deal. I'm learning!

Hidden Content A ride in the woods helps me relax and release tension. The fact I'm dragging a body should be entirely irrelevant?
