    Corn, Ice Cream, and Schoolhouses

Didn't get started until 1pm today.

Not too far away, and the pavement ends....

There's a cool old intersection with stone walls and big white Quartz standing stones.

Dry and dusty conditions... we are in the midst of a drought.....

we alternated between some pavement and some dirt as we rode south...

Falls River Road has Rhode Islands only real switchbacks... 2 of them. Mrs Trip starts to lean in as she climbs the hill....

They are steep, though, and loose, and are followed up by a series of dips up to the top of the hill....

....waiting for me to catch up....

    Woody Hill Schoolhouse.

Past the entrance to Camp Yahgoog.... the boy scout camp...celebrating their 100th year this summer!

Rhodetrip ride reports with all of the photo documentation are awesome. Thanks for sharing. With all of the greenery I do question your idea of a drought. Your rhodetrip into California will no doubt expose you to the real thing.

The road turns rougher as it heads into Connecticut...

You come up by the back of some fields...

There's fields... corn, hay, and fallow...along both sides of the old road...lined with gnarled old trees...

The roads runs down through one of my favorite old farms...

    Turned onto route 201...

And into Buttonwoods Farms.... mmm Ice Cream!

    ...Ridiculously expensive Ice Cream....

    2 cones....$15.00!! and worth it!

it's good ice cream...and they do a good business....

Fattened up, and with my wallet lightened, we headed north through eastern Connecticut...

This is the road to 'One Eyed Mary's House'...

I don't know why its called that, but its suitably creepy for the old farmhouse. It was occupied until just a year or 2 ago.....

Its boarded up now, though the door swings wide open.... but the fields are still being cultivated....

    We're heading for home now...

A sugaring operation... no buckets anymore....

    A flock of wild turkeys.....

    Wilie Schoolhouse.

An old cemetary...in a corn field....

    Through Oneco, Connecticut.....

...across the bridge in the center of town....

    Broadwall Farms...

Around the pond and over the bridge...don't jump off... and we're home. Thanks for riding along!

A couple of things Rhodetrip, first, that little girl you ride with sure is cute, even in all that motorcycle gear, second, you only buy those ice creme cones when you have no grandchildren with you, and lastly, I love all those old rock fences.
    Great pictures, thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Joe. I'm looking forward to California. I guess the drought thing is relative....all our water levels are down....we went by Step Stone Falls, but I didn't bother with a photo...there's no water. Got a good downpour last night though... that will help.

Yes, Mel...she's certainly my better half and I'm lucky she puts up with me.
I would have to sell an organ first to afford ice cream for the kids there.
