Thanks to ronhbr (Ron), he got 5 riders together, 4 TW's and a KTM on Monday for a little afternoon ride in the Danskin Basin east of Boise. Riders included Ron, his long time riding buddy Larry, heyduke from Twin Falls and forum member, Wayne on the KTM, and myself. You can also access the Danskin OHV Trail system (east side), and Danskin Lookout . . . when they are accessable. We were a little early as the OHV area opened today, and the lookout road was still snow blocked.

Ron was a great wealth of local information, as part of this basin was a resting area for Oregon Trail Pioneer's, just north of Goodale's Cutoff. We had a good day as the temperature was warm, not hot, and I sure needed a therapy session with Dr. TW. Though it's not the most technical type of riding Ron and Larry are use too, (they like the trails), speaking for myself, I had a really fun time. Thanks a ton Ron, and I hope to make a few of your "adventures" in the future.

Oh, my camera sucked and turned out to be on its last breath and died on me shortly after taking some photo's near the lookout at our turn around area. I even hit the camera with a hammer when I got home. No luck with the hammer treatment and the camera doesn't work anymore. The video quality is bad, but it gives you an idea of what the ride was like.

Wayne mentioned that he would like to see our tracks on the map, so Wayne if you see this, here you go.

Staging area, L-R: Wayne, Ron, heyduke.

Quick stop while Ron briefs us of the area here where the pioneers rested, grazed and watered the animals.

Another stop. Ron thinks the pioneer's came up the creek in the draw on the right side of this photo. Larry rode down it a ways

and when he got back said it would be rough rid'in if we continued, so we turned around here. Cool spot.

Down another spur road that connects to the OHV trails. This landing overlooks Willow Creek. I think near Cherry Gulch.

If you look at the ridge in the top center you can see one of the OHV trails.

We went down 2-3 spur roads and one of them had a pretty good sized water crossing. Since we had to turn around, we got to

go through the water crossing twice. As we reconnect with the main lookout road, heyduke takes a timeout to dump the water

out of his boots. I have to admit, my socks got wet too!

Heading towards the lookout we started to see some snow along the way. Eventually, it blocked the road and we had to turn

around before reaching the lookout. In the distance parked, is a big ol' orange KTM. I'd guess a 990. Wayne's is a nice 690, I think.

Here's a photo of Larry just before we turn around.

Darn photo limit per page, to be continued.

View of Prairie, Idaho from the lookout road. Prescribed burning of some sort I think.

View of Trinity Mtn. and a view of the canyon rim of the South Fork Boise River in foreground. Trinity has a lookout up yonder too.

Finally a view of Danskin Lookout. Didn't make it this trip, but maybe next time.

    And here's the action video.

Sooo, is that how you get a new camera, take a hammer to it? Looks like you had a great ride with some great company! Neat looking country, and some interesting pioneer lore as well.

Judging from all the snow on the mountains around I'll bet those water crossings were a little chilly. Too bad you didn't make it to the lookout, but that gives you a good excuse to come back later. I had a similar experience last week, report pending. Did Georgie make the trip? I enjoyed the pics, video, and the map. Thanks for sharing them!

I'd take a picture of the hammer modified camera, but . . .

Funny, Ron asked where Georgie was too! Didn't bring her this trip cause I left from work to go ride.

Look forward to your next ride report.

When I plan on a ride, I'll try to give enough notice so maybe you can make it. Problem is, sometimes I decide to go at the last minute. However, some of my rides are planned well ahead of time.

If I hear of another ride from someone else in the area, I'll be sure to let you know as well. I don't know the Danskin trail system as well as Ron does, only really been on one ride there, but if you like trail riding it's pretty fun in most places. I've seen video of some of the single track and I know some of the trails are above my ability, but there are hundreds of miles of easier trails too. I hear they widened most of the trails for ATV use, which means I probably can do those!

Looked like a good group and a fun afternoon. Lots of wide open country, in those parts. You really have the video process dialed in Admiral. Thanks. Gerry
    Take care my Friend.........
