Another Little Eastern Canada Day Trip

    Okay. I love this bike.

I flipped the bird to Mother Nature and her 'thunderstorm warnings' (pffttt, whatever) and took off for an afternoon jaunt. I know an area that's got a bunch of nice dirt roads and follows some really pretty coastline.....so I headed that way, took a detour and 2km of trail turned into a 3-hour ordeal of thigh-deep washouts, moose bog, and 7 downed trees across the trail. I was at that "will insurance cover it if I just give up, and leave it here forever?" point....where you've beat and thrashed your way through sooo much crap that you figure you MUST be at least halfway through...but then you shut off the bike and walk the next half mile to try and decide if you're better off turning around and doing all that crap AGAIN or charging ahead into possibly more crap than you've already dealt with. Yeah...that bad. But, the TW soldiered on. Trail From Hell: 0 TW200: 1.
Poor trail decisions aside, the rest of the trip was awesome.

Found a long, beautiful gravel road that led all the way across the marsh to a huge (old) pier.

    Same old pier

I hadn't been to this spot for a long time. There was an old fertilizer plant; used to be really cool....there was a huge building with a polished concrete floor and sheet steel walls and roof, empty. The ricers would meet there and spin their cars around, the airsoft people would use it for home-base for their weekend war games.... And to get to the wharf to fish for sand sharks and rays, you drove in one end of the building and out the other to the wharf. The building has been removed but the concrete floor is still there. Here's a pano shot of the wharf.

    Okay....thumbnails aren't showing up....or maybe it's just my browser...

Really nice TW road that follows the coastline:

To say the road follows the coastline here would be an understatement....they built the road too close and the road ended up BEING the coastline, and a new parallel road had to be built. Here, the TW is parked on what used to be the old road, looking to the right, then to the left..

And a few shots from Slack's Cove, which was where I turned around and headed home because my 4 hours ride was pushing 8, I was soaked from sweat and from wallowing through swampy trails, and it was around 48-50 F ....but the view at the cove was worth it.

Neat destination along a rather pretty coastline.
You managed to keep the bike fairly clean at least considering the 2km ordeal.
I see the fishing rod holder, does this mean you had time to get a line wet after all the exploring?

Well, on the dirt trail after the horrible moose-bog trail, I was already soaked up to my knees, so I 'let er hang' through all the big puddle that I picked my way around on the way in and washed some of the glop off. Plus, the top 3/4 stays clean if you can only go through a trail at walking speed...or less. hehe

Bike-day was Sunday, fishing-day was Saturday. :-) If I'm going fishing, there's a fair amount of highway involved to get to my favorite sea-trout river, so I take the car.
