Headed about ten miles out of Montrose to the Black Canyon State Park.

You can ride a really fun road to the bottom. Plenty of switchbacks and about 15% grade.

Then back up for some sight seeing along the top.

Hot out there, but had a good look at a bunch of the overlooks.

Its about 1/2 mile deep. Narrow with sheer walls.

Beautiful! I've spent some time in the Nucla/Naturita area and have visited Cortez, Durango, Silverton but would definitely like to spend more time in Colorado. Thanks for sharing your ride.

About 3 years ago I had a 3 week project in Montrose, and I shipped a road bike (bicycle that is) out for it. Spent a lot of time riding up to and into that park; a great time but a bummer of a hill to ride in the heat of the afternoon from town. Thanks for the pics.
