I'm looking to get in some trail riding next season...I used to do a lot of mountain biking in these forests so I'd like to get back out there on the TW and mix it up a bit, nothing crazy...I don't have any trail riding buddies around here and I won't trail ride alone (had some spills on mountain bikes)...have to buy a better skid plate before I do though...if anyone else is interested let me know...I'd like to get up to Freetown since it's close, has 25 miles of trails and I'm the most familiar with it (although it's been quite a while)

if anyone else in New England wants to do some riding just post up

I wouldn't mind trying some but I have lost track of all the complications of getting the OK to ride. I think at this point, the bike has to have a regular license plate and an ATV plate/sticker- but I could be wrong. I used to ride my whole area (rt495-rt95-rt140) back in the day. Gary / Mansfield.

hey Gary...didn't realize there was someone else in MA on this forum...you should check out the "tag yourself" map in my signature...i just did some research to find out what is needed to legally offroad in MA...from what i have read everyone now needs a ohv sticker even if you have a license plate...here is where you can get a ohv sticker...you have to type in your info into the second section even if you know you're not an existing customer and then it will say that it didn't find you and you will need to click on "new customer" and fill that out and i believe they will mail it to you...i won't be doing this till the spring since the forests are closed till then but when that time comes if you want to ride just let me know...i'm new to off-roading on a motorcycle so i may need to buy some gear in prep...as for me i have a helmet, goggles and thin gloves...as for the bike i think i will need a better skid plate...it's also hollow modded so i can't bury it in water due to the filter & breather...any other prep./gear/tool recommendations?

    Ryan / Fairhaven

sticker/ohv registration...i think there are 2 stickers...one for each side of the bike...to be put somewhere visible like on the tank or fork tubes...i think it's $30 and good for 1 year

    Registration

All ORVs must be currently registered in Massachusetts under MGL c. 90B. New Massachusetts Recreation Vehicle Laws require the display of registration on the left and right side of the vehicle. Additionally, motor vehicles registered under chapter 90 must now also register as a recreation vehicle under chapter 90B (on/off road motorcycles, Jeeps, etc.) when used for recreation or pleasure once they leave a public way as defined in chapter 90. Out of state recreation vehicle registrations are not valid in Massachusetts. Contact the Division of Environmental Law Enforcement for registration information: (617)626-1610 or www.mass.gov/dfwele/dle/elereg.htm

Oh yeah Ryan, your neck of the woods is some nice street riding- Westport, Fairhaven, Dartmouth, Little Compton. I'm usually down there on my F800GS though.

I guess you see about the complications of off-road riding around this state. Perhaps I can get organized in the spring- I ran all the mentioned areas hard "back in the day". Gary

yea there are some good roads down this way...ever check out the route 105/18 between little quitticas pond and great quitticas pond?...probably my favorite, def a nice twisy scenic route...I used to ride all those and more as well but on a mountain bike...yea i can't believe how complicated it is...the site should just say any off road vehicle needs a sticker and skip all the extra BS!...yea def let me know if you want to go...patchaug in CT sounds like a fun ride too...no sticker needed, just a license plate http://www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?A=2716&Q=325070
