This is a 1989 TW200 frame with a clear, street legal California title in my name.

I picked this frame up as a favor for a member of this forum who was looking for a titled frame. After some initial appreciation and correspondence regarding shipping details, he has unfortunately gone silent despite repeated attempts to see if he is still interested. Therefore, I am offering this frame to other forum members.

This frame came from a running bike that the guy tore down to make into a flat-tracker. He got as far as putting new bearing races into the steering head, then lost interest in the project and parted the bike out. I picked up the frame and title, but no plate. Frame appears to be complete and unmolested, with no apparent problems that a can of spray paint won't fix.

Registration is currently non-op'd and I have the title in hand. I have the frame crated for shipment and I am willing to drop off at a local shipper of your choice if you coordinate and pay for shipping. Total crated weight is 100 lbs. Crate dimensions are approximately 14.5" x 36" x 44.5". Local pickup would be best, as shipping may be expensive, depending on where you live.

Let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.

I would also be interested in trading for a 2001+ front wheel, disc brake assembly and forks.

    Hi Joshua,

I am in Pleasanton, which is in the San Fransisco Bay area in northern California. Valencia is in the LA area in southern California. Unfortunately about 300 miles apart. I will give you a call to see if we can work something out.

That was a good deal... and having it on non-op was key!

I'm helping a friend build up a California titled frame. The price was right, but DMV back fees ended up costing more than $700.00!

He needed it though, and now he's got that hurdle out of the way.
Now I must hurry on... for there they go, and I am their leader!

DMV back fees? Sooooo you have to pay for a vehicle registration back to the last time it was on the road? Is that eveywhere in the states or just in California? Seems ridiculous.

Yep, back registrations and fines, unless it was placed on non-operational status when the last registration was due.

It's quite a racket in California, and just one of many "incentives" this state offers to keep older vehicles off the road....

California - Every year, the vehicle registration fees must be paid. The most recent fees for my 2005 TW200 were $133 if paid by the due date. If paid late, the penalties and fees would climb up to $194. Each additional year that the vehicle is not registered will increase the total due by a similar amount, so these back fees can be substantial. The alternative to paying the registration fees would be to file for Planned Nonoperation (Non-op) which costs $21 and is good until you decide to register the vehicle or sell it.

I believe that the California DMV keeps non-registered vehicles on their books for about 7 years, then they drop out of their system and you may be able to avoid paying any late fees and penalties when the vehicle is re-registered.

CA titled frames with back fees can be washed by titling in AZ and then re-titled in CA this eliminated the back fees

you do have to go to the AZ DMV in person for the title work is the only catch so if it costs you $400 or $500 in fuel it's probably not worth the time and effort

when the Cali law allowing back reg fees was written a Cali car club helped draft a loophole for
"collector" vehicles you just have to find a DMV person willing to read the page in the rule book and for them to understand and comply with the law
