Maybe this is the best place to post up - not sure.
Thought I'd share a discovery of mine:
I found a U.S. based online retailer for Japanese TW200 bolt-on mods.
The website is: http://vintagebred.com
Seems like they have some cool stuff for sale.
Also looks like they are fairly new, so if you order something, share your experience.
Thanks for the heads up but I agree with RisingSun - Way, way over priced! Forget it.
I have a suggestion for all you hollow mod, Japanese style custom lovers.
First of all, a little history is in order. I think some of the older guys will back me up on this, and I mean no one who desires those parts any insult, just a headsup.
A lot of parts you guys are lusting after have apparently become "nostalgic" and desirable. To us, they were crap, cheap, single-chromed knockoffs of Bates headlights and brackets, Lucas (et al) tail lights, "eyebrows" etc. In other words, they weren't "cool" at the time, but if you couldn't afford the real thing you could find them in any bike shop in abundance for literally 1/4 the price of the "real" thing, produced when Japanese goods were viewed with the same suspicion we now afford Chinese goods. As near as I can tell they're the exact same products produced and sold for dirt cheap in the '70's and 80's. It's nice to see them back in vogue, but that's all they are. I would at least hope the chrome is better than it was back then.
I'm not even saying the stuff is junk, only that we viewed it as junk. I'm sure it's reasonably priced in its home market of Japan, but by the time it reaches our shores with all the costs involved it certainly isn't gunna be worth what it costs here.
Scrounge the Harley swap meets. I see buckets of the things, often at giveaway prices and occasionally the "real" thing offered for far less than if sourced offshore.
Old guy prejudice, but if I was gunna build a hollow mod and pay such steep prices for knockoffs I'd scrounge up some "real" vintage Honda, Yamaha or Brit bike headlights, tail lights and accessories. Cool stuff like built-in speedometers and turn indicator bulbs in their housings, yada, yada..
(You can get a Supertrapp can anywhere, btw. Any length and diameter, right out of their catalog. I haven't checked, but if Supertrapp themselves doesn't sell a headpipe specifically for a TW, your friendly local muffler shop can probably bend one up for you for twenty bucks. Ditto for pod filters, order them anywhere by carb mouth size)
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
Powdercoated '87 frame, extended swingarm, YZ fork legs, ATV tire, 14/55, XT350 tank, spliced quick-release seat, disc brake conversion, beeg headlight, beeger rack, Lizrdcooler, Lizrdventz and bunch of other stuff all covered in invisible ink.
