Only one motorcycle made for adventure to north pole in 1987.

    TWmodsforadvtoNP.jpg

Hello, I'd like to share this picture. One of my respectful friend Shinji Kazama rode to North pole by this machine.

Plate tag (in photo) says This bike is TW200 chassis with TY250R motor combination. TY250R motor has little advantage for torque in low range and easy start. Weight about 198 lb (90kg). teflon coated wire, cold resistance vinyl pipe for -58 degree environment.
Yamaha tried put all high technology stuff into this bike in these days.

I have interest about around swing arm and frame work. Production model is nothing like this.

    hope you enjoy, thanks.

So, it's a two stroke????? The TY is a two stroke trials bike. Very capable. Don't know a thing about the rest. What rear tire did they use? Front looks larger than 18 inch. TY front is 21 inch I think. Very interesting project. I like it.

Well...I know the history on this bike, but if folks inquire about my TW, and the subject happens to come up...haha I'm still telling them a TW was the first bike to make it to the North Pole!!!

Interesting to see the actual bike, and the mods required to make the journey.

On the face of it, that’s only around 40% TW

    Thanks for sharing …….

Your friend used a great bike as the basis for his adventure. Congratulate him on a cool accomplishment.

I'm thinking 40% is being optimistic. Probably a lot less.

    Thank you for all comments.

Yes, It is 2 stroke motor and 21 inch front wheel. So what we say maybe, TW and TY hybrid bike. But I can see frame work looks like neither one. Tire is looks me like production tire with studs. Very unique looking. I still say like littletommy as well.

Shinji Kazama made South pole by another motorcycle in 1992. I just hats off to his challenging spirit.

Bike is display on highway parking area in Japan. I hope to see real bike when I have chance to go next time.
