Trying to see if theres a way to run a 17 inch rear/front rim.

Yes I know its silly but think of the tire choices!

I see Warp 9 will sell barrels in Japanese lace 32/36 spoke options.

Can we just re barrel the OEM hubs?

i have seen this and would like to do something similar as the standard tw options here are limited and expensive. i didnt realise you could buy 32 hole rims or is that standard for the rears? i thought it was just the tw, what about spokes? how would that work out?

I've seen on the warp9 site, that these bikes have a 32 hole rim on the rear:
Supported Models:
1989 - 14 CR125,CR250, CR500
2002 - 14 CRF450
2004 - 14 CRF 250
1996 - 08 XR250, XR400, XR650
2004 - 09 CR250X, CR450X
1997 - 04 XR250R
1996 - 04 XR400R
1993 - 00 XR600R

I send my rims and hubs to a "wheel maker" and they are make custom made spokes.
They send me back the complete wheel (mounted and centered).

Currently the most bikes (with spoke wheels) have a 36 hole rim on the rear.

Yeah I dont think Im up to lacing a wheel myself. But from the looks of it if you can order the Warp 9 Rim in a 32 hole and drop it off with someone that can lace it I guess it shouldnt be an issue!

Nice find Supachip, that bike looks sweeeet!

If your simply looking to run street tires the Bridgestone 203/204 tires are awesome. They even work amazingly well off-road however if you want the look of a 17 they ain't going to do it for you.

Yeah got quoted a set from my local dealer and will be getting them come spring!

I was interested in the 17/17 look but I think I'll be getting a second bike for that after doing a lot of thinking. Unless I bent my barrel today on the rear... Then I might look at ordering the big guy.

Hi guys, Im also interested in turning my rear into 17inch perhaps even the front too. Anyone have some pics of mods thats been done this way? (Besides the one pick Supachip1 posted)
I want to achieve a more balanced look on the bike.

Also, would I need to get another swing arm thats a bit narrower? I assume running a 17 on the standard tw arm might look a bit funky....

Any thoughts...

You can not use a other swing arm.
And you don't need a other one.

I have a TW200 with 17" front and rear with a 190/50-17, hell, this looks good!!!!!!!!

Did you notice much of a weight difference between the stock wheel and the 17" ? I was surprised how heavy the stock wheel was when I changed the rear sprocket.

I am sure, that there is a weight difference. But I don't know it.
I've bought the bike with this rim set and till new I haven't changed the chain kit or the tire.

Thanks macbig2k1! Yes, very nice indeed!
Now we need some detail....

Whats the specs for the two rims? You mentioned the rear setup is 190/50-17? and the front?

What brake disc & calliper did you add in the front? Looks interesting....

Again, very nice! Thanks for sharing the pics

Rim:
3.5 x 17" front
5.5 x 17" rear

Tires:
120/70-17
190/50-17

And the front brake disk incl. adapter is made/designed by me. You can get it in my online shop:
TW-Parts.com - Tuning-, Zubehör- und Ersatzteile für Yamaha TW125, 200 und 225

3 different disk designs and 3 different colors for the adapter.

PS: You have a interesting nick -->> GDR - German Democratic Republic (was born in the GDR)

Thanks for the info macbig2k1. Very nice disk and adapter design. Might have to get that for my new build.

You obviously seems to be the guy to ask advice. Do you think I will be able to put a bigger tire on the back 17inch such as a 190/80-17 or 180/80-17. More off road looking.
Will there be enough clearance at the back with an aspect ratio of 80 or 90 on a 17inch rim? Also Im dropping the back frame to create a more levelled line running from the new xs400 tank to the back of the new tail end. As per quick Photoshop mockup design.

PS: GDR only initials....unfortunately no reference to Germany ;)
