I own a 1987 model, which I may wish to upgrade. I know that the rotor, stator, CDI and LH case are unique to the 87 model. However, I was thinking about replacing all of those with a set from a later model and re-wiring using a corresponding wiring loom. Does anyone know whether or not this is likely to be possible?

We just swapped a 94 electrical into an 87. Stator magneto, pulser coil, rectifier, cdi and harness. Only difference we noticed is that the newer models have running lights off blinkers. Don't plug in the blue wire and they work the same.

Did the components fit into the 87 outer engine case or did you have to replace that too?
