What is the difference in the carbs from older models to the newer? I have a 89 with 2000k miles on it. The person who had it before me ran dirty gas. I found a replacement for $45. I'd rather just take the old one off and rebuild it later as a swap spare. The one I found says 2000 and up. What's the difference?

2000 and up used a CV carb — mostly to keep it under Japans stringent emissions tests

Prior to 2000, it used the old style slide carb (reputed to be “slightly” better, though there’s little difference between the two)

You can switch between the two styles as your want takes you, there’s no change in the engines — but as I understand it, there may be some alteration required in the inlet manifold rubber, and possibly the throttle cables (which may well end up being the wrong way round e.g. on the wrong side). This is just from memory, so don’t take my word for it ……

However, all things are possible
