Hi folks,

New to TW200s and this forum. Recently bought a 1991 with 9800m on it, sight-unseen (long story). Turns out the carb body had a float pin post sheared off, and original replacements are $250-$300.

So, I thought I'd take a risk see if I could make this work for $45:

Pros:
• Innexpensive
• Made for similar engine

Cons:
• Throttle cams & cable hangers on wrong side, and different shape
• Physically a bit narrower, so the intake boot doesn't quite reach
• Made for 2001-2017 models

Well... with some wrangling, and cable re-routing, (and some fresh gas in the tank)... it started up with just a few kicks, and seems to idle and run pretty well. The throttle is a bit stiff—you can tell it's not quite right with this cam (the return cable isn't quite right); but I'm confident that it works well enough to ride safely (sorry, can't post pix due to new forum restriction).

I was thinking that replacing the throttle and cables with matching 2001-2017 model year would fix and operate that carb better. Also I have to find a way to extend the intake boot; I'll make a trip to my local shop and see what they have to say.

Any thoughts on the throttle idea?

I'd expect the challege to be the cable brackets to the carb, rather than entire cable assemblies.
There are some sharp folks on this forum who may be able to advise part number(s).

Out of couriousity:
1. Choke rather than enrichener?
2. What is carb throat in millimeters (Tekei is 28)
3. If you wanted jets, are they available?

I suspect you're right about the brackets; but the two cams are really different; the new one is smaller and uniform (both sides even distance from pivot point), but the old one is a lot larger and the normal throttle side of the cam is quite a bit further from the pivot than the return—so it's not a surprise that this cable set (and throttle grip cam) isn't that smooth.

I can start by modifying the old cable bracket to fit the new cam, see if that helps.

As to your other questions, I'm not a carb expert, so I just took at guess at what looked like a close logical replacement. No clue about jets, but here are the specs from the manufacturer:

Also, when changing to this carb, the intake mainfold from a 2001 and newer is required to make a perfect fit.

A genuine Yamaha part will cost more than the carb.

Occasionally they are available from China at a much lower cost...a quick search of ebay did not find any.
