What is that beast at the bottom. That simply looks mean.
My guess is a Ducati with knobbies - Awesome!
a bicycle disc?? that's thinking out of the box isn't it. that bultaco is nice too, i'm a sucker for the spanish. great stuff!

makes me wonder how long the alley sweep has to run.... how many more years before it becomes a victim of it's own success?

keep portland weird is a great motto, but at some point it might get too big for it's own good, i'd like to run it before that day as that sure looks like fun!

burning man started as just a single day of fun for some friends at ocean beach in san francisco.

Well, I officially hate all of you guys who got to ride this awesome thing.

I have received ONE, yes, "uno" "1" replies to local ads to try and get something similar going here in Tucson where we have an almost 1:1 ratio of streets to alleys throughout most of the city limits

Congratulations on the legendary event you've established up there, it looks like too much fun to give up on ripping off, so I guess I'll keep trying!
Hey Don,

If I were closer, I would definitely be in!

Don't get too discouraged, things like this take some time to take off. Even if you only have a handful of participants you will have bragging rights for being part of the first annual event!

Just set a date, plan a route, see who shows up, ride, have fun and take lots of pictures. That way, everyone will see what they missed out on and maybe next year you'll have twice as many participants.

Exactly!

Lay out a route and set a time to meet and go.

ADV is the place to post info and drum up interest.

Make up a flyer and ask every mc shop to post it prominently weeks in advance.

State it is NOT A RACE and that everyone is responsible for their actions.

My personal opinion is to state "Legal bikes only!" or you will get shut down.

Go the the local LEO's and ask to talk with all who ride bikes either for work or hobby and get at least one to join the ride.

All it takes is one jerk doing stunts on the streets to end the fun.

Looked like some fun...I hope. I love the John Deere colored scooter. Any guess on the number of riders that showed up to this alley sweeper? Video makes it look like riders spread out after a while. Ever crowed? What do the cops think about this ride? Turn a blind eye to it, especially with all the non street legal bikes. Despite that I thinks it's kind of rebellious and fun. Oh, and is there a scheduled route or do you just drive down any alley you want and meet back at the end? Anyway, thanks for sharing.

They hand out a map at the begining. It shows different areas of town and a map of the alleyways through town. Everyone kind of breaks up into groups after the start. There was a meeting point for lunch and a meeting point at the end. We just met at the starting point, stopped for lunch and then ended the day back at the cars and trailers. The cops seem to turn a blind eye for the most part. I heard of a few people getting tickets. It started out with 300-400 bikes. Our group was about 15 or so bikes. We would gain some and lose some. People kind of follow one group for a while then split off and follow another group of riders. It is a really fun event, hard to tell how long it will be able to continue. Portland is kind of known for allowing this type of thing though.
More bikes

During one of our breaks

Nice bike. On the left, in the sidewalk curb, is one of the old rings used to tie up horses

Bzzzzzzzzzz. It’s a Bumble Bee!

I wish I would have taken a picture of Mr. Bracket riding 2-up with his son AND the huge toolbox on the back AND the two gas cans. And he was HAULIN! – he was tough to keep up with – even with all that weight on the poor little Tdub.

Four TWs in front of a store that sells bras for big bosomed women (really).

The store also has an interesting name.

That looks like a really cool event. I'm surprised the film crew from Portlandia wasn't capitalizing on this.
Looks like a great time, well documented with pictures and videos. Looks a little wet, but I guess that's no big deal to people from the northwest. The bike pictures were very interesting. Quite a variety. Thanks for taking us along!

"The Pencil Test": Stick a pencil between your breasts and let go. If it falls to the floor... etc., etc..

I'm serious! This is really something that women use to determine the type of breasts they have for buying "boulder holders".
LOVE the pic of the guy mowing the lawn.

He wasn't real happy with us
. He was acting like he was going to push his lawn mower in front of me while telling me to stay in the tracks and off his grass. I wouldn't want to hurt the precious grass in an alleyway
.
